I am originally from Austin, Texas. I moved to New York in 1999 to pursue a career in modern dance and found so much more to passionately pursue. Life in this city is deep and rich.
I have long believed in the importance of skillful and loving parenting to the well-being of individuals and societies. I have come to understand that the transition into parenthood is complex and multi-dimensional and deserves abundant loving care and attention. I am grateful for the chance to be a part of, and witness to, the journeys of the families I have had the honor to work with.
I completed my birth and postpartum doula training through Doulas of North America in 2012. In 2013 I became a certified lactation counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. To date I have attended 72 births at hospitals, homes, and birthing centers throughout New York City. I am a volunteer full-spectrum and birth doula with the Doula Project and have previously volunteered with the Mothers' Milk Bank of Austin, Texas. I am trained to educate about and screen for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and have diverse referral resources in that area. I regularly attend workshops and trainings in areas of study related to the perinatal period.
I hold a BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase. I am a professional modern dancer and a practitioner and occasional teacher of the martial art form, qi gong. My movement practices have been informed by the study of qi gong, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais Awareness through Movement practice, and various dance techniques and teachings.
I live in Brooklyn and work throughout New York City.
